Chris Smither

Naked Soul

Friday, August 19, 2016
7:00 PM–8:30 PM
Sold Out

Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for fifty years, Chris Smither is truly an American original. His newest recording, Still on the Levee, is a career-spanning retrospective double CD. Recorded in New Orleans with studio-mates The Motivators, Still on the Levee plays host to special guests like Allen Toussaint and Loudon Wainwright III.

Reviewers and fans from around the world agree that Smither is a profound songwriter, a blistering guitarist and, as he puts it, a “one-man band to the bone.” Chris melds the guitar styles of his two major influences, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, into his own signature sound. His music continues to draw deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets, and humanist philosophers.

About Naked Soul

Naked Soul presents performances from some of the country’s top singer/songwriters without microphones or amplifiers, as if the music were, acoustically speaking, naked. The musicians in the series draw upon the universal themes inherent in Himalayan art—spirituality, peace, tolerance, wisdom, compassion—on select Friday evenings. Learn More
