Ganavya

Album Release Concert

Wednesday, May 2, 2018
7:00 PM–8:30 PM

Singer Ganavya Doraiswamy draws from ancient Indian spirituals and jazz standards from the West, all sung with “aching emotional intensity” (Jazz Times). She celebrates the release of her anticipated debut album, Aikyam: Onnu (“Oneness”) in this concert presented by Brooklyn Raga Massive. Ganavya, whose voice has been described as “haunting” by All About Jazz and “enchanting” by NPR, sings in both Tamil and English—and in the universal language of pure emotion.

About the Musician

Hailed as “extraordinary” (DownBeat) and “most enchanting” (NPR), vocalist and composer Ganavya Doraiswamy has carved a niche for herself at the nexus of South Indian vocal styles and contemporary music, characterized as a “fervently creative vocalist” with an “aching emotional intensity” (JazzTimes). Recently, she sang on the Quincy Jones-produced Tocororo, which hit number 1 on jazz charts. She has worked with legends in the music world from Placido Domingo to Zakir Hussain, who have all influenced her work.
