Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.


About the Musicians

Jiaju Shen is an artist of extraordinary ability and a celebrated expert in pipa, a traditional Chinese music instrument. She is a national award-winning musician, a member of the China Association of Performing Arts, the Shanghai Performing Artists Workers Union, Shanghai Musician Association, and founder of FJ Music Fusion, New York’s first Chinese fusion band that brings China’s traditional music to contemporary audiences through modern integrations of classical pieces and other musical genres.

Mengyan Yu is a guzheng (Chinese zither) virtuoso. Born and raised in a renowned family of musicians in Fujian, China, she started to learn guzheng at the age of six and has mastered three different musical instruments: guzheng, piano, and flute. She is a member of the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York. Mengyan successfully held solo concerts at Hangtai Concert Hall and Banlam Grand Theatre, receiving rave reviews. Since coming to the United States in 2010, she has performed at the prestigious stages of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the United Nations.
