Spiral Music

Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.


About the Musicians

Raj Kapoor (madal) serves as Music and Dance Director of Dance Theater of Nepal. He performs and teaches in many organizations and institutions throughout New York and the United States as well as in national and international folk arts festivals. He is an expert on all Eastern drums and mentors a variety of age groups in Nepali folk and film-style dance forms.

Amrit Biswokarma (flute, sarangi) is a Nepali musician who has recently come to the U.S. after teaching music for over a decade in Nepal at the Soniya Kala Kendra Myagdi Music School. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays many traditional Nepalese instruments including the sarangi, bamboo flute, and shehnai. Amrit has performed all over South Asia and this will be one his first performances in NY and his premiere performance with Dance Theater of Nepal.
