Love in the City is a 1953 Italian anthology “of great historical significance…the founding work of cinéma vérité” (J. Hoberman). The film is composed of six segments each with its own writer and director:

  • Paid Love written and directed by Carlo Lizzani
  • Attempted Suicide by Michelangelo Antonioni
  • Paradise for Three Hours by Dino Risi
  • Marriage Agency by Federico Fellini
  • Story of Catarina by Cesare Zavattini and Umberto Maselli
  • Italians Stare written and directed by Alberto Lattuada

About the Speaker

Sarah Gerard is an American writer and novelist. Her writings have been published in Bomb Magazine, The New York Times, New York Magazine, and The Paris Review Daily. Her most recent novel, Binary Star, was published in early 2015 to great reviews.
