Prasanna

Rhythms of India

Friday, November 10, 2017
8:30 PM–10:00 PM

After his sold-out show earlier this year, the hugely popular Indian guitar master Prasanna returns to the Rubin to present two exciting and contrasting sets: Carnatic G Force and Global Bollywood.

Referencing the two current exhibits at the Rubin, which inspired him to create a very personal musical storyline for the evening, Prasanna says, “The World Is Sound! I want to take the audience with me on a sonic journey, from the Carnatic South to India in Full Frame, seen through the wide-angle lens of Bollywood. Be sure to catch some panoramic vistas of jazz, rock, reggae, and classical music at various scenic viewpoints.”

Global Bollywood

Bollywood music is among the most fascinating melting pot genres of the world. Its immediate connection with visual imagery inspires Prasanna to open its musical lens onto the broader world of contemporary America and beyond. Along with the talents of Shalini Lakshmi from India on vocals, Zé Luis from Brazil on saxophone and flute, and Samuel Torres from Colombia on multi-percussion, Prasanna will paint a sound that is sometimes Indian, sometimes global. “I want you to join us on this magic carpet ride,” Prasanna says, “and together we will frame the special sound of modern India.”

Those who buy tickets for both sessions will have access to an exclusive performance of audience requests beginning at 6:00 p.m. These guests will also be admitted into the theater at 5:50 p.m.and will get first choice of seats.

This concert is presented with Harrice Miller Entertainment. Sunny Thakkar is a community partner.
