About the Musicians

Suphala is one of the most versatile tabla artists making music today. A proteÌgeÌ of the great tabla masters Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Suphala draws influence from musical genres from Western and Indian classical to electronic, jazz, folk, and soul. She has recorded or performed with musicians such as Timbaland, Norah Jones, and Perry Ferrell among others and her music has received public acclaim, including praise from media outlets like Vogue, CNN, and the New York Times.

Zafer Tawil, a Palestinian musician based in New York City, is a virtuoso on the oud, violin, and qanoun and arabic percussion. He has performed with countless acclaimed musicians, including Sting, Elliot Sharp, Simon Shaheen, Cheb Mami, Bassam Saba, and George Ziadeh. Also an accomplished composer, Tawil has composed music for the films “Rachel Getting Married” and “Until When.”
