Tenzin Nyenden + Tenzin Norbu

Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. This week Tenzin Nyenden and Tenzin Norbu are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.


About the Musicians Tenzin Nyenden (flute) developed his love of music at an early age as one of the youngest students to enroll in the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). As a part of TIPA, he toured the world and, in 1995, became a junior artist. He has taught Tibetan music, dance, and opera in Tibetan Children’s Village Home, Sujat, and various Tibetan Settlement Camps in India and the United States. In addition to teaching, he continues to perform at venues such as Emory University and the Richmond Folk Festival.

Tenzin Norbu (erhu) A student of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Norbu specializes in the study of dramyin, flute, yangchen, and erhu. He has performed in major cities in India such as New Delhi, South India, Ladakh, and Darjeeling. Norbu moved to New York City in 2014. He is eager to engage with second-generation Himalayan-American children to foster their love of music and promote their own traditional culture.
