Wednesday, April 20, 2016
7:00 PM–8:30 PM

Thee Majesty is a video and sound project that juxtaposes provocative words and phrases with ethereal soundscapes. Since its inception in 1998, Thee Majesty has been a collaboration between Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and h/er favorite musicians and friends in improvisational and experimental performances. This production, created specifically for the Rubin Museum, will feature Genesis Breyer P-Orridge teaming up with New York based artist and Psychic TV drummer and co-producer, Edley ODowd.

A pre-performance tour of the exhibition Try To Altar Everything takes place at 6:00 pm and is free for ticket holders. Meet in the Spiral lobby.

About the Artists

For nearly half a century Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (b. Britain, 1950) has been questioning the meaning and substance of identity through artistic endeavors, willful reincarnation, and physical shapeshifting. Embracing the body as not simply the vessel but the site of the avant-garde impulse, Breyer P-Orridge has reinvented and reintroduced h/erself again and again ““ as Fluxus pioneer, groundbreaking performance artist, inventor of industrial music, “wrecker of civilization,” essayist and theoretician, and, most recently, with her late wife Lady Jaye as pandrogyne. Breyer P-Orridge’s work has been the subject of numerous international exhibitions, including recently “S/he is Her/e” at the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh (2013), and “Life Is A Cheap Suitcase” at Summerhall, Edinburgh (2014).

Edley ODowd is a New York”“based artist and percussionist who has been a longtime collaborator with Genesis Breyer P-Orridge as well as bands and artists like Psychic TV, Kylesa, Toilet Boys, Shilpa Ray, Lene Lovich, Deborah Harry, and Tony Conrad. His graphic designs have appeared on countless musical releases and book jackets. He spends his free time counseling wayward youth in search of positive guidance.
