Why can only one person experience this at a time?

This artwork is designed to accommodate a personalized experience for one visitor per viewing.

How do I sign up?

Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or by visiting the admissions desk. Tickets are available two weeks in advance. If you are purchasing online, be sure to select the available date you would like to attend; scroll down to choose the event listed as Kalimpong Virtual Reality Experience and then your preferred time, if available.

Does my ticket include admission to the exhibition?

Yes. Your timed ticket purchase includes access to all of our exhibitions.

Why are you selling tickets only two weeks in advance?

Due to popular demand, we are staggering the release of tickets. This allows for the overall best experience for our visitors.

What if I purchase a ticket but it turns out that I can’t attend?

Please call box office at 212-620-5000 ext. 344 by 5:00 PM the day before your reservation to inform us you will be cancelling your reservation so this spot can be made available to another guest.

I didn’t get a ticket because the time I wanted was sold out. Is there a standby list?

There is no standby list.

Is there an age limit?

Participants must be older than nine to participate. We cannot make exceptions.

If I am a visitor who is hard of hearing, deaf, blind, or partially sighted, how do I participate?

When you book your reservation, please inform us in advance by calling the box office at 212-620-5000 ext 344 and we will provide assistance.

What if I have limited mobility?

Not a problem! We will be able to accommodate you. Just inform the attendant when you check in to the experience in our galleries.

I bought a ticket. Now what?

Please check the time on your confirmation e-mail and be sure to arrive at the admissions desk on your scheduled date and time 15 minutes in advance. Please show the confirmation e-mail if you reserved online at the admissions desk. After receiving your ticket, head to the fifth floor gallery and wait outside the virtual reality room. When the attendant is ready, they will be with you. Please do not disturb attendants during active experiences.

What happens if I arrive later than my time?

Latecomers cannot be accommodated. Arriving late will forfeit your ticket. We will not be able to offer a refund or exchange.

I’m a member. Do I need to make a reservation?

Yes. Every visitor who chooses to participate in this experience must have a reservation. Member tickets are free.

I’d like to divide my session with someone else. Can I?

This artwork cannot be shared and is designed for one participant per session. We recommend trying to book consecutive time slots if available.

Can my friends join me in the room to watch me go through it?

Absolutely. However, we ask that they do not interact with you while the experience is active and stay away from the playspace outlined on the floor. We may ask anyone who disrupts the experience to wait outside.

Can my friends take photos or videos of me in the space?

Definitely! However, they cannot use flash within this space as it is distracting to the attendant and jeopardizes the safety of our guests. Make sure to share photos or videos using the hashtags #ALostFuture #RubinMuseum and #TheFutureIsFluid.
