Our Friday itineraries offer a lively selection of events and artworks that will enrich your time at the Museum. Stay up late with us, we’re open until 10:00 p.m.
01. Cocktails in the K2 Lounge
Kickoff the weekend with a trip to the K2 Lounge, featuring one of New York’s hottest up-and-coming DJs. Come early to enjoy 2-for-1 drink specials on all beer, wine and well drinks. Happy Hour runs from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
02. Live Music
At 7:00 p.m., head downstairs to hear Alejandro Escovedo perform an all acoustic set in our intimate theater. In our Naked Soul singer/songwriter concert series, you have the opportunity to hear great contemporary artists perform unplugged. We also invite each artist to investigate how a work from our permanent collection overlaps with themes in their own work.
03. Find Your Mask
After the concert, try on a digital mask in our “Virtually Masked” photo booth, and share the results with your friends. Visit Becoming Another: The Power of Masks on the 6th floor.
04. Featured Exhibition
The Masterworks exhibition presents seminal works from the major strands of Himalayan art, drawing mostly from the Museum’s permanent collection and long-term loans. The exhibition is organized geographically, showcasing the the diversity of the art of Tibet over time and in relation to neighboring regions.
05. Artwork Highlight
The Buddhist goddess Marichi appears in many forms. One of her most common forms is as the Goddess of the Dawn, which depicts her in the chariot of the sun, removing obstacles with her radiant light. Don’t miss her appearance in the exhibition Masterworks on the second floor.
