Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. This week Rami Seo and Jesse Choy are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.



About the Musicians

 

Rami Seo performs an expansive repertoire on the 12-string gayakeum, including traditional Korean court music, sanjo epics, gayakeum byong-chang, and contemporary compositions. She has performed in Korea, Japan, China, South America, and the U.S. as a soloist. In addition, she has performed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics Anniversary Commemoration, The National Grant Theater of Korea, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Common House in the White House, and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project. She is the founder and music director of GEMINY and Project WorldMusic Ensemble.


Jesse Choy, a guitarist in the true jazz tradition, combines natural lyricism, fluency in diverse musical languages, and seamless technique. Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, he studied classical guitar and composition while growing up and was drawn to jazz after hearing Wes Montgomery. Jesse won numerous competitions and became an in-demand guitarist in Korea. He has also studied at the Berklee College of Music and the New York University Jazz Studies Master’s Program. He performs regularly in New York with numerous groups and has toured Europe and the U.S. with Ron McClure and Trevor Dunn’s Trio-Convulsant.
