Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.



About the Musicians

 

Andrew Shantz is a vocalist and keyboardist with a background in jazz and an appetite for musical exploration. In 2008. he was initiated into Hindustani classical music by Smt. Madhumita Saha in Kolkata, India. Since then, Andrew has continued his studies in earnest with return trips to India, classes in New York, and lessons with Indian classical masters.Andrew is a longtime member of Brooklyn Raga Massive and recently formed Sangha, a group blending Indian and Western elements to create an improvisational flow by turns meditative and exciting.

 

Zac Colwell is a Texas-born, NYC-based multi-instrumentalist who has performed around the world with many groups including Big Data, Sondre Lerche, Of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Against ME!, and others. He is the drummer and producer of CHAPPO and sings his own songs with Fancy Colors. He produces many eclectic artists, from Moroccan Gnawa musicians to psych rock, and plays flute and saxophone in the Indian-jazz fusion group Sangha.
