Monastic-Led Meditations in Union Square

Pop-up Group Meditation

Saturday, August 19, 2017
10:00 AM–11:15 AM

Experience Zen Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh’s community of mindfulness in the heart of New York. From 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., head to Union Square to join monastics from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village retreat in rural France to celebrate the NYC premiere of the film Walk With Me, a documentary about the the Zen monastics.

During the silent sitting meditation, join fellow practitioners as you relax your body and bring your awareness back to your breath. Conscious breathing helps restore calm to your mind and body. You may find it helpful to recite Thich Nhat Hanh’s meditation poem:

    • Breathing in, I know I am breathing in
    • Breathing out, I know I am breathing out

After the sitting meditation, the monks and nuns will lead a walking meditation (leaving at 10:45am) from Union Square to the Rubin Museum for a day of mindfulness and screenings of Walk With Me.

The meditations will be livestreamed on our Facebook page.
