Fight the Power

Gallery Tour Inspired by Nonconformity and Resistance

Friday, November 15, 2019
7:00 PM–8:00 PM
Free with Museum Admission

The Fight the Power gallery tour explores the rebellious traditions represented in the Rubin’s exhibitions. The Buddha himself was a social radical who rejected the mainstream religious and social beliefs of his time. The history of Tantric Buddhism has many stories of the great Indian mahasiddhas subverting social norms in order to wake themselves and others up to the true nature of reality. These themes tie in with the exhibition Clapping with Stones: Art and Acts of Resistance, highlighting the connection between contemporary art of resistance and the Himalayan art from our collection.

Clapping with Stones: Art and Acts of Resistance is supported by Rasika and Girish Reddy, the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Foundation, anonymous, Basha Frost Rubin and Scott Grinsell, Akhoury Foundation, Preethi Krishna and Ram Sundaram, and Sonny and Gita Mehta.
