“Afilm of extraordinary visual and allegorical power.” – Michael Chanon, British Film Institute
Antonio Das Mortes (“Antonio of the Death”) has lived a quiet life in Brazil for nearly 30 years after he successfully defeated the last of the Cangaceiro bandits. But now, after believing them to be all but forgotten, a new Cangaceiro emerges and reinvigorates Antonio’s spirit.
Clemente on Antonio Das Mortes: “Glauber Rocha was the first artist I ever met in the sense that he was the first person I ever met who didn’t think like everyone around him and was so tormented and full of life and I was only nineteen years old; I met him when I was travelling through South America. He was really the person who initiated me to the idea that you could think differently about things.”
