6:15-7:00 p.m. Tenzing Rigdol
Tenzing Rigdol was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 1982. He studied art and art history at the University of Colorado, graduating in 2004 with a degree in fine art and philosophy. Rigdol’s training in traditional art forms began in 1997 when he learned Tibetan carpet design at the Tibetan Children’s Village in Dharamsala, India. In 1998, he studied classical painting in 1998 under Tsering Yankey in Tibet, and later attended the School of Tibetan Tangka Painting in Nepal in 1999 where he studied under master painters Phenpo Tenzin Dhargay and Tenzin Gawa. In 2001, Rigdol learned Tibetan sand painting, butter sculpture and Buddhist doctrine at Shakhar Choten Monastery in Nepal. A student of Buddhist philosophy, he is also an accomplished poet. Since 2002, when he and his family were granted political asylum in the United States, Rigdol has lived in New York.
