Linda Lantieri, educator and author of Building Emotional Intelligence meets with psychologist and researcher Lisa Miller, Ph.D. (Associate Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University) to explore children’s ability to meditate and their receptiveness to spirituality.
Linda Lantieri has forty years of experience in education as a teacher and director of a middle school in East Harlem, and faculty member at Hunter College in New York City. She serves as Director of The Inner Resilience Program, co-founder of the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP) and is one of the founding board members of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). She is the coauthor of Waging Peace in Our Schools, editor of Schools with Spirit: Nurturing the Inner Lives of Children and Teachers and author of Building Emotional Intelligence: Techniques to Cultivate Inner Strength in Children.
Psychologist and scholar Lisa Jane Miller is Associate Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. A graduate of Yale College (B.A.) and University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D.), Dr. Miller has authored over fifty scholarly articles on spirituality, resilience and mental health, as well as spoken internationally and on Capital Hill, as a scholar on spirituality in youth and families. Her current work includes school based spiritually oriented interventions for children and adolescents, teacher training, pedagogical models around spiritual awareness, as well as ongoing use of spiritual awareness in therapy and coaching. Professor Miller has received numerous grants and awards for her research on mental health, treatment and wellness, to include funding from NIMH, the William T Grant Foundation Scholars Award, the vanAmeringen Foundation, the Kingenstein Fund, and the Pritchard Foundation. She currently is editor of the Oxford University Press Handbook of Psychology and Spirituality, associate editor of the APA journal Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, and Past-President of APA Division of Spirituality, Religion and Psychology. She has hosted a television series on children with strong perceptual attunement, Psychic Kids on AE. She has also made numerous appearances as a psychology expert on television to include Larry King Live, Fox News, ABC World News Tonight, and the Weekend Today Show.
