About the Speakers

Tim Kreider is an essayist and cartoonist. His most recent book is We Learn Nothing. His cartoons have been collected in three books by Fantagraphics. He is a frequent contributor to The New York Times. His cartoon, “The Pain–When Will It End?” ran for twelve years in the Baltimore City Paper and other alternative weeklies. Filmmaker Judd Apatow calls his writing “heartbreaking, brutal, and hilarious—usually at the same time.”
Daniel Gilbert is Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. He has won numerous awards for his research and teaching, including the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology.In 2008 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His2007 book Stumbling on Happinessspent six months on the New York Times bestsellerlist, has been translated into thirty languages, and was awarded the Royal Society’s General Book Prize for best science book of the year. In 2010 he hosted and co-wrote theaward-winning NOVAtelevision series This Emotional Lifewhich was seen by more than ten million viewers. He is afrequent contributor to Time, The New York Times, and NPR’s All Things Considered,and has been a guest on numerous television shows including The Today Show, Charlie Rose, 20/20, and The Colbert Report. His first TED talk is one of the fifteen most viewed talks of all time.
