Diagnosis III: Dreams

Workshop Series

Wednesday, April 16, 2014
8:00 PM–9:30 PM
Free

The tradition of dream analysis illustrates how Tibetan medical practitioners explore all aspects of a patient’s activities in order to evaluate their condition. The Four Tantras detail specific interpretations of dreams in judging mental wellbeing. Jungian psychoanalyst Morgan Stebbins will be joined by Tibetan doctor Kunchog Tseten.

About the Speakers

Menpa Kunchog Tseten was trained by a seventh-generation lineage holder yogi physician from a renowned Tibetan medical family and graduated with a Master’s degree in Traditional Tibetan Medicine from the Qinghai University and Tibetan Medical University in Qinghai, Tibet. Now in his sixth year of practicing in the United States, Dr. Tseten integrates Tibetan knowledge, skills, and insight with an accessible Western point of view. His practice is intended to complement the positive aspects of biomedicine through the use of herbal supplements, dietary recommendations, lifestyle advice, and other traditional Tibetan medical approaches. This will be his second appearance at the Rubin in the Diagnosis series.
Morgan Stebbins, LMSW, DMin, NCPsyA, is a Jungian Analyst with a practice in Manhattan. He was the Director of Training of the JPA (Jungian Psychoanalytic Association) and continues to serve as a faculty member of the C.G. Jung Foundation of New York. Morgan began his ongoing Zen studies with Richard Baker Roshi at the San Francisco Zen Center in the late 70’s and is on the faculty of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care where he draws up on the wisdom of ancient traditions in his teaching. In his analytic practice, the meaning of archetypal symbols that arise in each person orients the direction of the work. He was last seen on stage at the Rubin during the groundbreaking Red Book Dialogues in 2009 and 2010, in conversation with Smashing Pumpkins lead Billy Corgan, vocalist Meredith Monk, and Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.
