Family Sundays are in person at the Rubin! Bring your family to the Mandala Lab on the third floor for an afternoon of creativity and self-exploration that both kids and grown-ups will enjoy.

OCTOBER FAMILY SUNDAYS:

This month, we invite you to discover the meaning behind the masks in the Rubin collection, as you create your own mask, featuring artistic elements that bring you a sense of safety and protection.

Mask-making and wearing have many associations within Himalayan culture. Masks can serve as a form of protection, for both the individual and the collective. In Tibet, masks often portray powerful figures such as Buddhist teachers, wrathful deities, and animal deities. When donning a mask, a person’s identity is transformed.
