Henri Cartier-Bresson: Old Worlds and New Worlds

Peter Galassi will present an illustrated lecture on Henri Cartier-Bresson, placing the photographer’s India portfolio in the context of his life and work.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: India in Full-Frame is organized by the Rubin Museum of Art in collaboration with Magnum Photos and the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation. Generous support is provided by The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, David Solo, an anonymous donor, and contributors to the 2017 Exhibitions Fund.

 

About the Speaker

Peter Galassi was a curator of photography at The Museum of Modern Art from 1981 to 2011, the last twenty years as Chief Curator. At MoMA he organized more than 40 exhibitions, many accompanied by major catalogues. He is also the author of Corot in Italy (1991) and books on Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Richard Benson. His most recent projects include Robert Frank in America (Stanford University) and In the Studio: Photographs (Gagosian Gallery, New York). Fundación MAPFRE, Barcelona, will present Brassaï next February. At MoMA, Galassi organized two Cartier-Bresson exhibitions: The Early Work (1987) and The Modern Century (2010).
