Jog Blues

Improvising Impermanence

Friday, March 27, 2020
7:00 PM–8:30 PM
Cancelled

Jog Blues brings together masters of jazz, blues, and Indian classical music in a 21st-century mix, creating an experience drawing from deep traditions but swinging toward the future. The band is named for Jog, the Indian midnight raga, and the blues, the most American of music genres.

Jog Blues returns to the Rubin to explore impermanence—the notion that nothing stays the same. Musically, impermanence translates to the reinventive, boundary-stretching, and surprising style of improvisation. An integral part of both raga and the blues, improvisation requires the musicians to listen deeply to each other, inviting the audience to do the same. What results is a communal journey into the suffering, joys, and liberation of the human experience.
