Khenpo Sodargye: Why is Tibetan Buddhism becoming popular in China?

Talks

Saturday, April 20, 2013
1:00 PM–2:30 PM
Free

In the history of modern Sino-Tibetan Buddhist interactions, Chinese intellectuals from both monastic and secular backgrounds have been the primary seekers, recipients, and disseminators of Tibetan Buddhist teachings in China. The trend of Chinese seeking spiritual counsel in the highlands of Tibet in the late Qing and Republic era has been renewed since the late twentieth century on a larger, far-reaching scale. Khenpo Sodargye of Larung Gar Buddhist Academy will address the sociopsychological context of why an increasing number of contemporary Chinese intellectuals are attracted to Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism and detail the contents of Tibetan Buddhism which resonate with their existential and spiritual concerns.
This talk will be given in Mandarin, with translation in English.
Includes a post-program tour.
