Nico Muhly + Andrew Solomon

Nico Muhly,whose new opera will premiere at the Metropolitan Opera next year, looks for lacunae in our art and lives with writer Andrew Solomon (The Noonday Demon).

Having collaborated with musicians ranging from Björk to Philip Glass to the Brooklyn Children’s Chorus, Nico Muhly is one of the most successful young classical composers in the country. Muhly’s first opera, a collaboration with librettist Craig Lucas, will premiere with the English National Opera in 2011 before going on to make its Metropolitan Opera debut during the 2013-2014 Season.
Andrew Solomon is the author of The Irony Tower: Soviet Artists in a Time of Glasnost (Knopf, 1991), a bestselling novel, A Stone Boat (Faber, 1994) and The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression (Scribner, 2001), which has won him fourteen national awards, including the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist status. He is writing a book called A Dozen Kinds of Love: Raising Remarkable Children, which deals with how families accommodate children with physical, mental and social disabilities.
