About the Speaker

Matthew Rohrer is the author of seven books of poems, most recently DESTROYER AND PRESERVER, published by Wave Books. He’s received the Hopwood Award for poetry and a Pushcart prize, and was selected as a National Poetry Series winner, and was shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize. Recently he has participated in residencies/ performances at the Museum of Modern Art (New York City) and the Henry Art Gallery (Seattle). He teaches in the creative writing program at NYU and in the NYU Low Res program in Paris, and lives in Brooklyn.

Mind Over Matter Trivia:
– In the scene where Paprika interviews the filmaker avatar of Kogawa, Kogawa is made to resemble Akira Kurosawa.
– The bartenders that appear on Paprika’s website are voiced by the director of the film and the author of the novel from which the film is adapted.
– The soundtrack made Paprika one of the first films to use a vocaloid, a singing voice synthesizer.
