– St. Francis and his disciples were played by actual monks from the Nocere Inferiore monastery.
– The screenplay is inspired by the legends “Fioretti di San Francesco” and “La Vita di Frate Ginepro,” which date back to the 14thcentury.
– The monks who played in the film refused monetary compensation; however, when asked how Roberto Rossellini could repay them they requested a fireworks display.
