The Health Benefits of Yantra Yoga

With Lama Lobsang Palden

Wednesday, July 9, 2014
8:00 PM–9:30 PM
Free

Lama Lobsang Palden explains and demonstrates specific health benefits associated with the practice of Yantra Yoga, the Tibetan form of movement meditation.
Yantra Yoga can be traced back to 8th century Tibet and Vairocana, a student of Padmasambhava. Known as trul-khor, or body mandala, Yantra Yoga practices circulation and aims to rejuvenate the energy of body, speech and mind. Ancient movements, postures, mudras, breathing practices of tsa lung and Buddhist chanting engage body and speech, while visualization and meditation practices train the mind. Tibetan meditation, prostrations, and mantras are taught for karma purification, elimination of negativity, and generating peace. These postures can be seen on the wall of the Lukhang Temple in the exhibition on the third floor gallery of the Rubin. Ticket includes a tour of the Lukhang murals after the demonstration.

About the Speaker

Lama Lobsang learned Yantra Yoga in Tibet from Rinzen Geshe Nyima and other teachers while he was a young monk. As the reincarnation of the Nyingma guru yoga master Rinzen Karma Dorje and an accomplished Yantra Yoga master in his own right, Lama Lobsang has taught all over the world.
