On September 5, 2014 The Rubin opened the first museum exhibition devoted to the extensive Indian influences in Francesco Clemente’s work, Francesco Clemente: Inspired by India. To further explore the chief motivations in his life and art, the Clemente took the Rubin stage eight times with eight personalities from very different walks of life. Both artist and guest brought to the conversation a found object that acted as catalyst to a freewheeling conversation.

Waking Up: Dan Harris + Sam Harris

On September 9, 2014, mind scientist and renowned sceptic Sam Harris took the Rubin Museum stage to discuss his new exploration of spirituality, Waking Up, with broadcaster Dan Harris. Part seeker’s memoir and part exploration of the scientific underpinnings of spirituality, Waking Up addresses the 30 percent of Americans who follow no religion, but who suspect that Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Rumi, and the other saints and sages of history could not have all been epileptics, schizophrenics, or frauds.

Artists on Art 2014

The most recent iteration of our free “Artists on Art” talk series focused on the contemporary exhibition “Francesco Clemente: Inspired by India.” On select Friday nights, artists visited the Museum to engage in informal dialogues about Clemente’s work and their own. Speakers included Fred Tomaselli, Julian Schnabel, David Salle, and Swoon. Stay tuned for our 2015 “Artists on Art” lineup!
