Lara Netting

Docent since 2015

I chose to be a docent at the Rubin because of the Museum’s strong commitment to education: for students, the public, and its docents. I was also eager to broaden my knowledge of Asian art. I am a specialist in East Asian art but was new to Himalayan art. Students often ask so many questions that I can’t answer them all! Many of them are surprised by how interesting a Museum can be.

Typically leads tours:

Fridays and weekends, as well as school tours

Favorite tour themes:

I enjoy offering Silk Route”“themed tours, as this is a natural way for me to connect my knowledge of East Asia to the Himalayan works on display. I also emphasize materials in my tours, whether silk or mineral pigments. I find this encourages my group to look closely.
