ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sonam Tshedzom Tingkhye (she/her)
b. 1997, Seattle, WA; lives in Seattle, WA; works in Seattle, WA, and Boston, MA
Sonam Tshedzom Tingkhye is a first-generation Tibetan movement artist who specializes in dance performance, choreography, and dance film. She received her BFA in contemporary dance performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee where she graduated as an alumni-award winner for Highest in Academic Achievement. She has danced with artists and organizations including Robert Moses’ Kin, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Edisa Weeks, and the Merce Cunningham Trust. These various dance processes have helped inform her creative practice along with her upbringing. Through a Buddhist lens, the artist focuses on the intersections where ethics meet society, humans meet nature, and body meets mind. Illuminating how we’ve grown away from our sense of being with the influence of media, capitalism, and societal trauma, she seeks ways we can reimagine and come back to ourselves and community.
Sonam Tshedzom Tingkhye’s work has been presented at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Brooklyn Museum, Dance Film Lab, Henry Purcell Society of Boston, Pacific MusicWorks, Kaleidoscope Dance Company, and Tibet Film Festival.
