This week, we’ve been exploring the complex emotion of jealousy in conjunction with Brainwave 2016: Emotion.

While jealousy may have evolved in order to protect the family unit, this emotion has many modern day implications”¦and many of them aren’t so nice. But jealousy can sometimes serve as a call to action, and here are five reasons you’ll wish you and your loved ones were Rubin Museum members:

1) Free Admission to the Museum

“Jealousy is all the fun you think they had.” – Erica Jong

Who doesn’t love something free? Members can visit the Museum at any time, without paying an admission fee! Being a member allows you to take a spontaneous break in the middle of your bustling day to reflect in the Museum’s calming Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room or find peace by taking a stroll through the Rubin galleries.

2) Annual Members Reception

Wine, beer, and delicious hors d’oeuvres are all a part of the fun that is the Annual Members Reception. On May 5, this year’s event will feature an exclusive special sneak preview of the upcoming exhibition Nepalese Seasons: Rain and Ritual, which will feature nearly 50 objects to illustrate the importance of the monsoon season to the Nepalese region.

3) Meditation Classes

Members can join in our New York Times-featured weekly Mindfulness Meditation series, every Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Each session, guided by a leading meditation teacher like Sharon Salzberg, includes a discussion on mindfulness and a twenty-minute sitting meditation. Only Members can reserve a seat and attend for free.

4) Special Members-Only Events

“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy;

It is the green-ey’d monster, which doth mock

The meat it feeds on.”

“•William Shakespeare, Othello

The Rubin offers everything from exhibition tours to special tea programs and special speaker talks throughout the year. Our latest event featured an exclusive tour led by the curator of our exhibition, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge: Try to Altar Everything.

5) Discounts on Program Tickets and at Café Serai & the Shop

Are you always looking the best deals in NYC? The Museum grants members discounts on all program ticket purchases, shop items, and goods from Café Serai.
