Mindful Connections Online

Featuring Yungchen Lhamo

Thursday, December 16, 2021
2:00 PM–3:00 PM

Mindful Connections Online is a free, monthly program that offers engagement between adults living with dementia and works of art. Join Rubin Museum staff and docents for an hour of close looking, discussion, and interpretation of traditional and contemporary Himalyan art. Inspired by current exhibitions, Mindful Connections asks participants to engage with their senses, share ideas, and experience art’s ability to reveal our interconnectivity.

This month join Tibetan singer-songwriter Yungchen Lhamo for a session of art, gentle singing, and humming. Celebrate the coming of a New Year by making music together.

About the artist

Singer-songwriter Yungchen Lhamo was the first Tibetan artist to achieve worldwide acclaim. Her first album, Tibetan Prayer, won Australia’s ARIA for Best World Music Album in 1995, and she signed with Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records. She has visited over 80 countries and performed in over 500 concerts in opera houses, concert halls, cathedrals, rock and country music festivals, and residences for people with mental illness or without homes. Her sixth and seventh albums, Awakening and One Drop of Kindness, are forthcoming in late 2021 or early 2022.

In 2004 Yungchen established the One Drop of Kindness Foundation, which assists communities in Tibet, Nepal, and India with food, clothing, shoes, drinking water, educational supplies, and building materials. In Kingston, New York, the foundation’s You Are Beautiful, I Am Beautiful program for Heart Street involves residents in role playing therapies about family and substance abuse.
