Up the Junction

Cabaret Cinema

Friday, August 12, 2016
9:30 PM–11:30 PM

1968, United Kingdom, Peter Collinson, 119 min.

Introduced by costume designer Fabio Toblini

Challenging the societal norms of 1960s London, the young and beautiful Polly Dean rejects her affluent upbringing to forge a new identity across the river in the gritty neighborhood of Battersea. Polly embraces this rough-and-tumble world but at a painful price. Manfred Mann’s psychedelic soundtrack and a rich array of 1960s fashions set a revolutionary tone.

“Up the Junction comes across apropos of America’s here and now. The financial and social divide between the have and have not’s is ample and each side is loath to trust or care about the other.” —NIck Prigge, Pop Matters

This film was selected by the artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, whose exhibition Try to Altar Everything closed August 1.
