Dream-Over 2018: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Please review the Dream-Over FAQ before purchasing your ticket. If you have any questions about the information below, or what else to expect during your night at the Museum, contact the Rubin box office at via email (boxoffice@rubinmuseum.org) or by phone, during Museum open hours, at (212) 620-5000 ext. 344.

When does the Dream-Over begin? When should I arrive?

The Dream-Over begins at 8:00 PM and ends at 9:00 AM the following morning. All dreamers must arrive for registration no later than 8:15 PM on Saturday, September 29, or they may not be admitted.

Where will I sleep?

The Dream-Over takes place throughout the Museum, with dreamers bedding down in the galleries under a piece of traditional or contemporary art chosen specifically for them based on responses to the Dreamlife Questionnaire. Dreamers must bring their own bedding. (See “What to Bring” section below for important details.)

How do I fill out a Dreamlife Questionnaire?

Dreamlife Questionnaires (along with a release form and an emergency contact form) will be emailed to ticket holders within a few days after purchase. Dreamers must return their forms as soon as possible, and no later than noon on September 6, 2018.

Can I sleep next to my partner or friend?

Yes! When purchasing admission, dreamers will choose between a Single Ticket (for one person) and a Couples Ticket (for two people). Couples Ticket holders will sleep and dream together under the same work of art. Please note that friends purchasing Single Tickets will be assigned separate sleeping spots that may not be near each other.

Am I allowed to leave the Dream-Over and come back later?

Dreamers are asked to stay for the duration of the event, leaving no earlier than 9:00 AM. Anyone may leave at any time, but readmittance is not permitted.

Will dinner or breakfast be served?

Please eat dinner before you arrive, and do not bring any food or drink into the Museum. A late-night snack will be served, as well as a light breakfast. Water fountains are available throughout the museum, but food and drink of all kinds are prohibited in the galleries.

What should I bring?

  • Please arrive dressed in your pajamas, robe, and slippers. Be sure to dress warmly since galleries are kept at cool temperatures to protect the artwork.
  • You must bring your own bedding. The galleries are cold and floors are hard, so bring what you need to be comfortable. Comfy bedding such as duvets, quilts, favorite pillows, thermarests, and blow-up mattresses (with pumps) are recommended for optimum comfort. Tents are not allowed.
  • A flashlight is highly recommended.
  • Toiletries. While restrooms are available, showers are not.
  • It is highly recommended that you bring earplugs, as the galleries are not quiet and can be echoey. Please also bring a sleeping mask or a hat to pull down over your eyes, since lights will be dimmed, but not extinguished, for reasons of safety.

Is there anything I shouldn’t bring?

  • Please do not bring any food or drink into the Museum, as a late-night snack and light breakfast will be served.
  • Tents are not allowed.
  • To help us create an environment of safety, comfort, and inspiration, please do not bring any alcohol or drugs into the Museum. There is no smoking during the Dream-Over and outside access is not permitted.
