This painting depicts Lama Jatson Nyingpo, who lived from 1585 to 1656. A highly accomplished practitioner, he was considered a terton,or treasure revealer, who discovered a hidden text left by the great Tantric master Padmasambhava in the eighth century. Padmasambhava hid many of these terma throughout the Himalayas with the intention that they would be revealed when needed. By composing different teachings for different times, Padmasambhava understood the fluidity needed to convey the eternal truth that pervades them.
