This week’s meditation session is led by Tracy Cochran and the theme is Reflection. The guided meditation begins at 15:00.
Vajrayogini; Tibet; 18th century; Brass and gilt copper alloy; 12 3/8 × 8 3/8 × 4 in.; Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art; C2005.16.47
Vajrayogini appears in many forms, and her image functions as a meditational aid for Buddhist practitioners with an affinity to her fierce, powerful female form. As such, Vajrayogini fosters reflection into the nature of Buddhahood, women, and power. The composition of this artwork encourages such reflection, as the unusually dark patina of the sculpture contrasts with the bright gilding of the lotus throne, inspiring meditation on Vajrayogini’s form and function.
