Space pilot Tony Antonelli knows that the perspective from space changes your perspective on earth: “We would all act differently if we understood how small Earth is and that this is where all of us live.” And out there two hours can pass like ten minutes. Time and space are often used as correlates, but time passes differently outside of Earth’s atmosphere.

Commander Tony Antonelli of NASA has piloted two Space Shuttle missions. The much-decorated astronaut and current leader for crewed spaceflight at Lockheed Martin sat down with Yale University behavioral researcher Gal Zauberman, who studies the relationship between time and decision making, to explore how space warps time, and what mindset is needed to venture from the Earth’s surface.
