The Human Resources Manager is responsible for a wide range of HR programs and functions including interviewing and hiring of staff, administering benefit programs, leave policies and enforcing the Museum’s policies and practices. The HR Manager collaborates with the leadership team to understand and execute the Museum’s human resources strategy and diversity initiatives.
This is a full-time, exempt and hybrid eligible position.
The Senior Collections Manager is responsible for collections management and registration functions as defined below. Working with a team that includes the supervision of the Traveling Exhibitions and Loans Registrar along with various interns for the department, as well as contract staff in photography, art handling, conservation, provenance researchers, and registration.
In this position, the Senior Collections Manager is responsible for the day-to-day planning and realization for all collection management, registration, conservation and exhibitions logistics, art installation, collection database activities, and maintains collections and loans information on the Digital Assets Management System.
The Senior Collections Manager will work in conjunction with the digital team in support of the long-range strategy and goals as set by the DCAC and the executive team. In addition to working closely primarily with the Curatorial, Global Projects and Operations teams.
This position requires a minimum of twenty-five percent (25%) of travel both nationally and internationally.
This is a full-time exempt and hybrid eligible position with a workweek schedule of Mondays through Fridays with core work hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with ability to be flexible as needed based on project needs.
The incumbent reports to the Director of Curatorial Administration and Collection.
The Traveling Exhibitions and Loans Registrar will assist in organizing, managing and caring for the Museum’s collection, and will support the implementation of the Museum’s traveling exhibitions and loan programs. The main responsibilities includes planning, preparing, and couriering works for Rubin traveling exhibitions, loans program, and art projects.
The Traveling Exhibitions and Loans Registrar will work very closely with the DCAC team and primarily with the Senior Collections Manager & Provenance Researcher and the Exhibitions Manager.
This is a full-time exempt position that is hybrid eligible with a workweek schedule of Mondays through Fridays with core work hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility as needed especially during installation/deinstallation periods.
This position requires up to 50% of extensive travel both locally, nationally and possibly internationally.
The incumbent will report to the Director of Curatorial Administration and Collections.
Interns receive a $600 monthly stipend from the museum. Academic requirements will be fulfilled by arrangement with the individual college or university.

The Apprentice Museum Educator (AME) program at the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art provides practical skills to university students or recent graduates interested in future careers in the arts, specifically programming and museum education for school and family audiences. The AME will learn to work with a large age-range of visitors during their internship, and will develop the skills to manage an educational space with creativity. We foster critical thinking, leadership skills, curriculum planning, and public speaking.
The Collections Management Intern works closely with the Collections Manager, Registrar, and Department Administrator on several projects including object record updates within the collections database. The Collections Department is currently working on a large-scale file organization and digitization project. This position will be directly involved in this project, digitizing collections documents from historical exhibitions and assisting with ongoing data cleanup projects in the collections database (TMS). Interns will also have the opportunity to manage aspects of the library database (LibraryWorld) and learn about art storage and art handling procedures.
The Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art seeks a mature undergraduate, recent graduate, or graduate student to work under the guidance of Rubin curators. The Curatorial Intern will perform research and provide support for curatorial work and upcoming exhibitions that focus predominantly on Himalayan art and material culture.
The Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art’s in-house creative team is seeking a graphic design intern to assist in the Marketing & Communications Department. The intern will work closely with the Marketing & Communications team and report directly to the Head of Graphics & Branding.
The Museum will be offering internships through ARTS Intern, a program of Studio Institute. The ARTS Intern program places college undergraduates from diverse cultural backgrounds in paid summer internships at New York City museums. Eligible applicants must show a financial need and must either be New York City residents or enrolled in a college or university within the five boroughs of New York City.
