Project Himalayan Art Multiyear Initiative Phase II

Phase II of the Rubin’s ambitious, wide-reaching institutional initiative to advance the field of Himalayan art includes developing new digital content, expanding the project’s robust digital platform, and booking a second eight-venue tour of Gateway to Himalayan Art across North America through 2030.

Mandala Lab Multiyear Initiative Phase II

In the Mandala Lab’s next phase, we are continuing to develop our Resources for Educators for multifaceted settings in New York City public schools, piloting flexible traveling Mandala Lab installation formats in the US and abroad, and growing our digital resources and experiences for students, educators, and curious learners around the world.

The Rubin Museum Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room’s Journey to Brooklyn

In a commitment to ensure our New York City community continues to have access to the Rubin’s collection, our Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room will have a new home at the Brooklyn Museum’s Arts of Asia galleries. Opening June 2025 the six-year institutional collaboration includes collection sharing and curatorial exchange.

Community Public Art Commission at Diversity Plaza

The Rubin has partnered with the New York City Department of Transportation Art Program to install a newly commissioned public art work by Nepalese artist IMAGINE (a.k.a. Sneha Shrestha) at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights, Queens. The installation celebrates the diverse Himalayan cultures represented in the Jackson Heights neighborhood and will be unveiled in June 2025.

AWAKEN Podcast

In 2025 we will launch season 5 of our popular Webby Honoree podcast AWAKEN. Past seasons have been hosted by Laurie Anderson, Raveena Aurora, Falu, and Isabella Rossellini. Engaging artists, practitioners, scholars, and scientists in intriguing conversations while making connections between Himalayan art and the human experience, AWAKEN reaches a growing global online audience of over 1 million listeners from 165 countries.
