This week’s meditation session is led by Sharon Salzberg and the theme is Mantra.

Green Tara; Tibet; 13th century; Brass with inlays of silver; Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art; C2005.16.30
This 13th-century sculpture of Green Tara from Tibet displays all of the classic traits of the popular Buddhist deity. Dressed as a princess, she sits in the fluid pose of royal ease, suggesting her generous nature. Pilgrims and travelers recite her mantra, Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha, to ask for her protection and to stave away any harm that may cross their path. Practitioners also use her as a focus of meditation in hopes of gaining her compassion and wisdom.
