The Rubin’s AWAKEN podcast drops its sixth season on October 27 with a new host: Kathleen Hanna, punk singer, writer, and frontwoman of the bands Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. This season of AWAKEN explores the concept of wrath in Buddhist traditions as a powerful source for awakening and transformation rather than a destructive force. Each episode highlights a Buddhist or Hindu artwork from the Rubin depicting wrathful deities to illuminate their teachings on fierce compassion.
“When I get onstage and I’m able to embody anger physically and through my voice, I let it go,” says Kathleen Hanna. “What I learned from making this season is that anger can be a teacher and a guide, and that investigating it with curiosity can turn it into something proactive and helpful.”
Kathleen Hanna is joined by activists, artists, writers, Buddhist teachers, and others to explore how wrath can be harnessed for protection and meaningful action. Season 6 guests include:
